Question 4 July 12

The hardest thing about finding information and doing research on a topic for me is looking on Google. I never know what to type into the search box. When ever I put something to search a lot of unrelated topics come up. It makes me frustrated when what I am looking for doesn’t come up. I’ve learned before some tricks that you could search using and. For example if I am looking for teenagers doing drugs I could look up, teenagers and drugs, and better results may come up. I feel like the library research class did help me. I learned that even though it shows there are 6,001,234 results found on a topic not all of the results really come up. I also learned how to be able to tell the difference between a reliable and non-reliable website to use when doing a research paper. I also learned a lot about plagiarism. I did not know before that even though you paraphrase, the author and page still need to be cited. I also learned that common knowledge does not need to be cited. I feel that what I learned in the library research class will come in handy to me when I am writing a research paper. I will be able to incorporate what I learned into my paper and not have to worry about getting in trouble for plagiarism.
I would like to thank Ms. Moser for teaching the Library Research class and teaching me new things I never would have learned. I know that everything we learned in the class would come in handy for me in the future.

"SInce Everything is on the internet, i dont need books..... right?"

"Since Everything is on the internet, i dont need books..... right?"

Although everything is on the internet does not mean that everything on it is true or reliable. Some people make up fake website that contains false information. You may not always get all the information that you are looking for if you were to just to look things up on the internet. Also looking things up on the internet can not be too efficient. You may have troubles finding the exact things that you want from the internet and might have to make the best use of what you have, even if it means working around what you need too: learning things little by little about your topic. Another problem with only relying on the internet is the sources. The sources may not be too reliable and the ethos of the authors can be affected depending on if you know who the author is and how they got their information.

Books may take a longer time to look through but it may be more useful in some situations. Books can date from before we were born and can come in handy when doing a historical paper. On the internet, the results from Google come up from the recent dates or important dates that many people know about. Even though a book can be hard to look through and may take a while, there are experts that can help you with the research needed that may help cut down the time spent trying to research from it.

When you are in need of a biography or an autobiography books are a better source to look at. Most likely there are not going to be pages of a person’s autobiography or biography. The only time there would be something like that would be to have a quick summary. In books you can get more details which can better the effect of what is being located.

The internet also has quick short information. The amount of information that can be found on the internet could just be a quick summary of the whole truth of information that can be useful. When looking up about a person or a new cure a short article form Google will not tell a person the entire story as to results and such. A book would be a better way to go because it would explain how a person got to their results and it could talk about errors and difficulties getting there.

A good time to be able to use the internet would be to simply find quick sources that will summarize what is needed. When you are reading a book but need help understanding what the book is about, using the internet can help clarify what the book is saying in short simpler words. But just because it can explain the book does not meant that it will give all the details. Books are always full of key essential details that many other sources cannot provide. Which make books a better reliable sources at times, better than the internet.

Assignment 4

I think that librarians help people find information and organize the library and the books. I also think that librarians know the system of the library and are able to find a book easily and when someone needs help with a book or don’t know which book to get, the librarian can make suggestions and help summarize the book. They could even help find the book most appropriate for the research being done. I think it would be really cool if librarians began holding a time to help students and other people study. This would help me especially when I need help researching because I don’t always know where I should start when researching. It would be great if I was able to have help from an expert. I think that the library of the future is going to have reading areas where you could take the book and someone could read to you. I also think that when you walk into the library you can just say the book you need and it will come to you like one of the vending machines.
